Why a checklist beats rewriting from scratch

Placement season compresses weeks of work into days. A repeatable checklist stops you from "polishing" the same paragraph while missing basics recruiters scan in under 30 seconds: contact block, education, projects, and measurable bullets.

Must-have sections

• Header — name, phone, professional email, city, LinkedIn URL.
• Education — degree, college, CGPA (if strong), relevant coursework optional.
• Experience / internships — even 6-week stints count with outcome bullets.
• Projects — GitHub links, stack, and what you shipped — not just titles.
• Skills — grouped (languages, frameworks, tools) — avoid a 40-item dump.

Bullet quality test

Each bullet should answer: what you did, how, and what changed (time saved, users, revenue, grade, rank). Start with verbs: built, automated, reduced, led, shipped. If a bullet has no number and no outcome, rewrite it or cut it.

Format rules that survive ATS

• One column, standard fonts — skip graphics-heavy templates for campus drives.
• PDF export from Word/Google Docs; test that text is selectable (not a scanned image).
• File name: FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf.
• Keep early-career resumes to one page unless you have substantial research/publications.
