Choosing the right deposit network on Binance
Network selection is not optional
USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20) is not the same rail as USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20). The ticker looks identical; the blockchain is not. Binance shows a network dropdown when you generate a deposit address. Your sending wallet must use the same network.
Networks beginners see often
- ERC-20 — Ethereum mainnet; common, often higher gas fees.
- BEP-20 (BSC) — BNB Smart Chain; popular for lower fees on some assets.
- TRC-20 — Tron; frequent for USDT transfers due to fee profile.
- Native chain — BTC on Bitcoin, SOL on Solana — no token wrapper confusion.
Pre-deposit checklist
- Open Binance → Deposit → select asset → read all network options.
- Copy address only after selecting the network you will use to send.
- In your sending wallet/exchange, pick the identical network name.
- Send a small test amount for new routes.
- Check whether a memo/tag is required (common on XRP, XLM, etc.).
If you already picked wrong
Do not panic-send again. Document tx hash, networks used, and contact official support through the app. Recovery is sometimes possible but never guaranteed — prevention beats support tickets.
Withdrawals use the same rule
Mirror this discipline when moving to cold storage — withdrawal security and when to move off exchange.
