Stablecoin yield risk checklist for holders
Start with the job of the money
Before chasing APY, define whether the stablecoins are emergency cash, DCA dry powder, or long-term idle funds. Emergency money should prioritize immediate access over extra yield.
Five-point checklist
- Liquidity — How fast can you redeem in stressed conditions?
- Issuer concentration — Are you exposed to one stablecoin only?
- Platform risk — What happens if withdrawals pause temporarily?
- Rate durability — Is APY promotional or historically consistent?
- Tax treatment — Is yield taxed on receipt in your jurisdiction?
Common mistake
Locking your entire stable buffer for a small APY bump often breaks your DCA and rebalance plan when volatility spikes. Keep a liquid sleeve separate from any yield sleeve.
